How to use product search analytics

Use Indexa search analytics: popular queries, searches with no results, search quality metrics and improvements based on your shoppers' behavior.

Search statistics

Open “Analytics → Search statistics”, choose a period and review the queries and available metrics.

Compare equal periods. Traffic and catalog changes can influence your metrics.

Queries with no results

  1. Open “Analytics → Queries without results” and review frequent queries.

  2. Check whether the product is in the catalog and whether the feed is current.

  3. Repeat the query using “Preview widget” in the dashboard’s top bar, checking the language and availability filters.

  4. Add a synonym if needed, or decide whether to expand your assortment.

Search events

In “Widget → Integration”, check available event-tracking settings if you use website analytics.

For Google Tag Manager, publish your changes. Search queries, product clicks, add-to-cart and purchases are separate events; installing search does not automatically configure every analytics event.

Review regularly

Make one change at a time and compare its effect over a period.

Available data and features depend on your plan.

Date range and metrics

In “Search statistics” and “Queries without results”, use 7, 14 or 30 days, choose your own date range or select all dates. Quick periods include today and follow your account time zone. Use the same dates and filters when comparing figures.

Total queries counts searches; unique queries counts distinct query texts; queries without results counts searches returning no products. Their share is the proportion of such searches among all searches, and average products found is the average result count. Language filters and the selected period affect the displayed figures.

Exclude internal searches by IP

Open general search settings and find “Site analytics”. Add office, staff or developer IP addresses whose searches should be excluded. “Add current IP” fills your current address into the list; save the form to apply it. Enter one IPv4 or IPv6 address per line; commas and semicolons are also accepted.

Search continues to work normally for those visitors, but their queries are excluded from statistics. New searches from these addresses are not saved in logs; existing records from listed IPs are excluded from analytics. An IP shared by customers would exclude their searches too, so choose the addresses carefully.
