How to configure synonyms for product search

Add synonyms in Indexa so shoppers can find products using different names, abbreviations and familiar terms. Test rules in your store's search.

When synonyms help

A shopper may search for “mobile phone” while the catalog calls it a “smartphone”. A synonym rule helps connect these names.

Use queries with no results to find useful rules. First check that the product is actually in your catalog.

Add a rule

  1. Open “Search settings → Synonyms”.

  2. Choose the rule's language.

  3. In “Replace with”, enter the catalog term. In “Words to replace”, enter the alternative words and confirm each with Enter.

  4. Save and test each word using “Preview widget” in the dashboard’s top bar.

Maintain your rules

Add rules gradually. Edit or delete a rule if it produces irrelevant results.

Create separate rules for each language.
