How to install smart search through Google Tag Manager

Connect Indexa through Google Tag Manager if your website already has a web container installed.

Prepare the catalog and code

  1. Connect your product feed in Indexa and wait for the catalog to load.

  2. In “Widget → Integration”, enter the website URL and copy the universal code.

Connect from the Indexa dashboard

In “Widget → Integration”, connect your Google Tag Manager account, select the container and workspace and click “Install code”.

Publish the changes in Google Tag Manager. Saving the workspace alone does not activate the script on your website.

Add a tag manually

  1. Check that the required GTM web container is already installed on the website.

  2. In GTM, open “Tags → New” and name the tag Indexa search.

  3. In “Tag Configuration”, choose “Custom HTML” and paste the complete Indexa code.

  4. In “Triggering”, choose “All Pages”.

  5. Save, use “Preview” to check the tag, then click “Submit → Publish”.

Check search after installation

Open your store, then use “Check installation” in Indexa. Select the desktop and mobile search elements and save.

Search for a product, follow its link and close the widget. Repeat on the home, category and product pages.

If you switch from a CMS installation to GTM, remove the old script so it does not run twice.
